Government Spying on Student Activists
I am not having some sort of flach back to the 60's. But seems like some goverment officials are. FBI officias have been caught spying on college students at the University of Michigan who were organizing around the Affirmative Action issue that has been before the Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court. Not a flash back, not a dream, just trying to keep the kids in check as always.

I wonder if these FBI folks have hooked up with the people running the secret, but then unfortunately publicized database of young people that the Department of Defense have been keeping. Probably not. That might be what Federal officials call a "coordinated response".

Perhaps if those members voted to change their name from "By Any Means Necessary" to something like "Protectors of Affirmative Action" the FBI wouldn't think they were up to no good. Naming your group like that then bemoaning the actions of the FBI when they investigate and gather information on your organization through public means is ridiculous. Imagine how you would feel about the FBI investigating a group of Islamic Fascists with the explicit goal of upholding Islam as the one true religion called "By Any Means Necessary." Would you feel like they were a group of people involved in peaceful actions?
The FBI is charged with domestic protection and investigation, and have the authority to publicly gather information on anyone (no taps were used in this case, nothing outside the law that would be considered spying). This is hardly a case that could draw parallels to the 60's and Vietnam. This group is trying to keep Affirmative Action, not publicly against the war, and considering what I've read and heard about BAMN members I have no problem with the police and local officials keeping an eye on them.

Hans -- I believe Americans under 30 should pay one out of every eight dollars they earn into a structurally flawed system. I am a shill for AARP, an organization that directly harms the people I claim to represent. I do this despite the fact that AARP has an obvious conflict of interest here. I screw young americans while AARP sells investment plans.
Theath -- Somehow, Social Security reform and Gay Marriage have something to do with each other. I say this despite the fact that the inheritability of Voluntary Personal Retirement Accounts would help homosexual couples.
