Check out the new Google Earth 2006 US Election Guide

Google Earth has just launched a new set of voter participation tools that help users register to vote and learn more about candidates for Congress. They asked me to write about it for the Google Blog; you can read my commentary here.

Could the next step be using Google Earth to find your polling place? What else could it do?

Thanks to Google for taking this important step, its a very promising direction.

I think Google and elections are a bad mix. Google has unprecedented power over our information, our exposure to information, the way we think, or the way we may ultimately vote. The company motto isn "Do no evil".... but has anyone ever tried to contact their celebrated "Ethics Committee?" Just try. You can't. Personally, I am not ready to just sit back and trust anyone to do the right thing without some transparency. And that includes Google's new venture into US elections.

I'm voting to send a message to the politicians that we, the people are not as stupid as they think we are. I'm a registered Republican, but I'm voting for every Democratic candidate on the ballot. We are not fools. I'm sick of Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck. They are morons! We need to get out of Iraq, let them fight it out and focus on the poor and needy in our own country.
