On, Wisconsin!

Early returns from Wisconsin's primary show young voters turned out big today!

While we don't have hard turnout numbers yet, 18-29 year olds made up a much larger portion of the voters today than they did in 2004. That, coupled with news reports all day of big turnout statewide, is a sure sign that Wisconsin is yet another example of the way we're taking this election into our own hands this year.

Texas, Ohio, Vermont, and Rhode Island - you're next!

More Proof of a Big Year

Working at Rock the Vote, it's pretty clear this election year is something special. Our phones are ringing off the hook with people wanting to volunteer, get registered, find out where to vote, partner up to get out the vote - it's cool.

And, of course, young voter turnout has double, tripled or quadrupled in just about every primary or caucus so far. That's nothing to sneeze at.

So check this out - more proof. The charts below are from a report Rock the Vote put out today with the latest stats from some of the top pollsters.

We're paying attention...

...we're psyched about the candidates...

...and we're keyed into big issues.

Just more proof (if you needed it!) that 2008 is the Year of the Youth Vote.

The Momentum Continues

Last week we proved yet again just how important our vote is! More than 180,000 young people in VA and 137,000 in MD cast a ballot in their primaries far surpassing our previous turnout numbers in both states.

Already during this election cycle, over 550,000 people have downloaded the voter registration form on our website, we are seeing incredible turnout at the polls, and young people across the country are mobilizing; holding registration events, GOTV drives and talking to the candidates about the issues that matter. Keep up the good work!

Hawaii, Wisconsin and Washington-- you're next!

Rock the Vote teamed up with the ROOTS

This past Saturday in Los Angeles, Rock the Vote teamed up with the Grammy Award-winning band, THE ROOTS to present the 5th Annual Roots Jam Session, a continuous 5-hour concert that allows major music superstars and breaking bands to perform live and unrehearsed with musical backing from one of Rolling Stone’s “20 Greatest Live Acts In the World.”

The Jam Session opened with a knockout “drum off” between ?uestlove and Travis Barker. Later in the night, the ROOTS and Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump’s performed their version of “Walking on the Moon.” The crowd enjoyed impromptu performances from Seal, Corrine Bailey Rae, Bilal, Raheem DeVaughn, Eric Balfour’s Born as Ghosts, as well as a Doug E. Fresh and American Idol’s Blake Lewis’ beatbox battle.

In the audience, we saw Prince, Missy Elliot, Raven-Symoné, Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes, Journee Smollett, Nia Long Solange Knowles, Ryan Phillipe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Goapele, Sanna Lathan, Will.I.Am and Brian Michael Cox all partying the night away until 4 AM.

Google Earth map of Super Tuesday turnout increases

We were able to make a basic Google Earth map of the young voter turnout increases we saw this Tuesday, compared to the similarly competitive primaries in 2000. Check it out on Google Maps or download the kmz file if you have Google Earth.

Here's the 3D version from Google Earth:

And this is what the 2D Google Maps version looks like:

Young Voters Flooded the Polls

Young people flooded the polls yesterday to pick the next President of the United States. In more than 20 states across the nation, young voters turned out in record-breaking numbers at primaries and caucuses.

We have proven we are a driving force behind the 2008 Presidential election.

According to CNN’s exit polls and the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE), in nearly every state holding their primary or caucus last night, youth voter turnout increased significantly- doubling, tripling and even quadrupling turnout from 2000 & 2004!

Here are some highlights:
* In Tennessee young voters quadrupled their turnout, up from 35,000 in 2000 to nearly 140,000 young people between the ages of 18-29 casting a vote in last night’s primary.

*In Georgia young voters tripled their turnout with more than 280,000 individuals casting a ballot last night compared to approximately 92,000 ballots cast in 2000.

* In California, more than 850,000 voters under 30 cast ballots, far surpassing 2000 and 2004 levels.

Youth turnout was the winning margin of victory in several states.

*On the Democratic side, Barack Obama won the state of Missouri by just 10,000 votes, propelled to victory by 75,000 young people casting ballots in his favor. And on the Republican side, 45,000 young people voted for Mike Huckabee, far surpassing his 23,000 vote margin of victory.

Clearly the power of our vote is extraordinary and we have the power to shape the political landscape for decades to come.

Keep rocking the vote!

We doubled, tripled and even quadrupled our turnout!

Young voters flocked to the polls yesterday casting ballots in record numbers. According to CNN exit polls, in Tennessee alone we quadrupled our turnout from 2000.

Tennessee was not alone, young people in Georgia, Missouri and Oklahoma tripled their turnout last night.

Young Voter Surge Sweeps the Nation - early results

9:15 pm -

Over 20,000 of you Pledged to Pick the Prez this week.

More than 350,000 have registered to vote with Rock the Vote, as of tonight.

And today, millions of you took to the polls. Early results are in from several states, and the numbers are clear:

Young voter turnout this Super Tuesday is HUGE.

According to the exit polls, turnout among 18-29
year olds is up - A LOT - in New York, Georgia, Missouri, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.

The exit polls show that 18-29 year olds are a bigger share of the vote today than in 2004 - by several percentage points in nearly every state.

And those are only the states that we've got numbers to compare to from 2004!

This is awesome. 2008 is our year - we started it in Iowa, surged in New Hampshire, flocked to the polls in South Carolina, crowded the caucuses in Nevada, and tripled our turnout in Florida.

And today, young voters are sweeping the nation. This is our year, our election, and we're taking this country into our hands. This is awesome.

Stay tuned. We'll post more results and turnout numbers as we get them.
